Sheffield Zine Fest Report

Sheffield Zine Fest was good again this year, I really enjoyed it. It had moved to a new venue, the Hubs, where the student union things are. It was a nice big space and still very near to the train station. It was a little quieter than other years, maybe because it was the bank holiday weekend with a lot of other stuff going on, but the people who came were very interested and bought lots of my comics. In the end I broke even on the day, with travel and table costs, so I'm always happy to do that. Thanks everyone who looked at my stuff or bought anything and thanks to the organisers for another very well run event!

It was great to catch up with Simon Moreton and Nick Soucek who had booked tables. I did lots of swaps and bought some zines too, here they are below...

I got Simon Moreton's 'Minor Leagues #1' which is Simon's new zines / comic project, Nick Soucek's 'The Writing on My Shoes' which I have read now and is very good, 'The Downfall' by Brunez, 'Sex with Animals' by Jacob Louis Beaney, 'Adventures in Menstrating #7' by Chella Quint, 'About a Girl #1' by Sam Duffy and 'You are Not the Worst' by Doug Jensen. I'm going to read the rest of them soon once I recover from the weekend. I had markets on Sunday and Monday after the zine fest so I'm knackered now.

Leeds Thoughtbubble

I'll be at Leeds Thoughtbubble this weekend, Saturday and Sunday. I'll be at table 187a in New Dock Hall.
I haven't been to a comic festival for ages so it should be great to catch up with everyone, come and say hello. I'm not staying over so I won't be around in the evenings, I'll see how that works out.

I've got my new graphic novel / long comic 'Corporation Pop' at its festival debut. It will be priced at £8. Here's the first review of it from Richard Bruton at Forbidden Planet.

I'll also have the other two comics I've brought out this year, 'Flying Sausage Academy 1' and 'RhiZome 3', and I'll have some new copies of my Roman detective story 'Slaves of the Megapode'. See you there!

Lakes International Comic Art Festival

I'll be at the Lakes International Comic Art Festival this weekend on Saturday and Sunday. I'll be in the Comics Clock Tower at table 69.  Why not come along and see me if you're there. I'll have copies of my new comic trilogy 'Slaves of the Megapode' (probably Rob's best comic yet - Rob Clough) and 'RhiZome volumes 1 and 2'. Also I'll have plenty of copies of 'The Storytellers', 'A Handful of Groats', 'The Gods Must be Bastards' and my earlier comics too. Let's hope it goes well, this is my only big comics show of the year. I'm looking forward to it, as I haven't been to any shows for ages.

Birmingham Zine Festival 2011 Mini Report

Yay! Birmingham Zine Festival was great. It was right in the middle of Birmingham and free to get in, which is how comics shows should be. There were loads of people there all the time, except for the last hour, and they were all very interested and having a good look at the comics and zines. Lots of people were flicking through my comics which is good, some places they only stare at the covers and don't like to look at the insides. I had to go home afterwards so I couldn't go to the after show stuff which was a shame, but I was already very sleepy due to it being a hot and sunny day and probably would have just fallen asleep anyhow.

I had my best comics sales for a long time, much better than Leeds last year or the London Small Press Expo, so I am very happy and encouraged. Thanks everyone who came along and the organizers! I would definately go again next year if they have another one.

Here's a good bunch of photos of the event. These are from quite late on as you can tell by my eyes which were constantly closing.
