My First Comic
Simon M posted one of his earliest comic pages the other day so I thought I'd post up some of mine. This is from my first comic which I drew at University in about 1998. It's called '5 and a Half Hours on Milton Keynes Central'. Here's the first three pages...
It's pretty bad, good to see that I've got better. What was going on with the eyes?

Proof Copy of My Book 'The Storytellers'
Here's the proof copy of my book 'The Storytellers' which just turned up in the post today, look at it's spine... Its looking good to me so I'm going ahead and getting them printed.
Arne Bellstorf (editor) - Orang #7
My brother bought me this anthology from Reprodukt when we went to the comic shop in Munich. I chose it as it looked cool, and was happy to find out when I started reading it that it has English subtitles at the bottom of each page, so I can read it all. Its got some good stories by Amanda Vahamaki, Ron Rege Jr and Arne Bellstorf who I have read comics by before, and a lot of people who are new to me too. The theme is 'the end of the world' but its a very loose theme. There's a really good story by Hok Tak Yeung from Hong Kong, with beautiful drawing, about a prisoner about to be executed. Amanda Vahamaki's story is great too.

A Bit of Page Three From 'California 3'
Here's a row of panels from page three of 'California 3'. I'm just finishing page six today. I can't show the more exciting bits as I don't want to give too much of the story away.

Josh Simmons - Flayed Corpse
This tiny minicomic from Josh Simmons is great. Its only very short but its very dark. It's so dark that it made me laugh, like a properly nasty horror film. Here's a proper review of it from the Comics Journal. Its for sale from Oily Comics. I bought some other comics from Oily too so I'll have a read of them soon. This is the first Josh Simmons comic I've read but I'll look out for some more.

Derf Backderf - My Friend Dahmer
This is Derf Backderf's book length comic about going to school with Jeff Dahmer, the serial killer. He wasn't really friends with him, as Dahmer was a really strange messed up kid, but Derf and his friends treat him as a kind of mascot. They find him really funny in his weird ways. The book is sympathetic to Dahmer until he finally gives in to his horrible urges and kills someone. There's a lot about growing up in Derf's small town and the way everyone passes the time, and there are some very funny scenes too, as well as a lot of very sinister ones.
This is a really good book. The drawing is great, the people are really strange looking and drawn in Derf's own style, but totally believable. Before this I'd only seen some of Derf's stories about being a binman in his home town online, but I'd definately want to check out his other books now.
Here's a review from the Comics Journal and here's Derf's Blog about how he drew and researched the book.
