TCAF Toronto 2010 Next Week

Next Saturday and Sunday I'll be at TCAF so if you are there come and say hello. I'll have 'Gin Palace', 'Great Deeds Against the Dead', 'The Pasty Anthology' and all my older comics with me for sale. It's my first comics festival outside England so I hope it goes well.

News

Hurray it's Captain Armada. He brings children books.

I've spent the last couple of days rubbing out all the pencils from the 36 pages of 'Goblin Hall'. Now I have very tired hands and my rubbers have all turned into dust. But now it is finished so I can send it to the printers when I return from Canada. It's TCAF in eight days so I am very excited! I hope it goes well.

When I get back I will be skint so will start my ice cream business going straight away and then start a new comic, don't know what it will be about yet. I am wondering about whether to do another issue of 'Gin Palace' in time for Leeds in November. What does everyone think? It might be better to do just one a year if everyone is busy on their own comics... I don't know.

'Goblin Hall' Cover

This is the cover for 'Goblin hall'. It's nearly finished, just going to go round the letters again in black and then the comic is finished. I'll bring it out in June.

Possible Back Cover for 'Goblin Hall'

If I clean up the colours a bit this might be a nice back cover. I need to think of something more exciting for the front cover....

'Goblin Hall' Nearly Finished

Goblin Hall is nearly finished now. I am on the very last page (number 36). Here's a drawing of an army for you to look at. I'm just going to do the front and back covers next week and then publish it after Toronto, in June probably. I'll have to make some money first so I can afford the printing.

Paul Rainey - There's No TIme Like The Present 12

I read the new There's No Time Like The Present last night, it's the penultimate episode! Go and buy it from Paul Rainey here.

It's a great comic, can't say much about it without giving away lots of spoilers but we get to see the future and learn more about the ultranet and what's going on... I am well looking forward to the final episode and then reading the whole lot in one go.

Another Panel from 'Goblin Hall'

It's hard to find panels from the new pages of 'Goblin Hall' that don't give the story away but here's a few. As you can see it's full of thrilling action!

On the ice cream front I have made blackberry, rhubarb and crumble, rhubarb on it's own, vanilla, lemon meringue and lemon flavours this week.

Ice Cream

I've been making lots of ice cream for the last few days to sell in the summer. These two need a bit more stirring yet. So far I have made rice pudding, gooseberry, earl grey tea and blackcurrant ice creams. Any suggestions for more types? It's nice to do some cooking after all the drawing I've been doing earlier in the year.

Naoki Urasawa - Pluto - Volumes 7 & 8

Also this week I read the last two books in the 'Pluto' series by Urasawa. I don't like them quite as much as '20th Century Boys' but it's well worth keeping on and reading them through to the end. It's a very good satisfying ending and it's nice that there are only eight of them as thats more affordable than some endless series. I'm looking forward to reading the whole series in one go once I've forgotten the details. Can't say much about what happens without spoiling it if anyone wants to read them, but don't worry, it's all very well done.

Lewis Trondheim - Little Nothings 3 - Uneasy Happiness

The new 'Little Nothings' came in the post yesterday so I read it last night. It's another great book. There were a few pages I didn't get this time, I wonder if they are ones that are difficult to translate to English with the joke still working? I will read them again and see if they make sense this time. It's only a couple of them though and there were some very good sequences. I liked the ones dealing with his cat bringing a mouse into the house. Not so excited by the ones with his holiday on Reunion Island again, the first time he went there was funnier. I guess it depends what happens to him on his holidays.

'Goblin Hall' Characters

Here's a couple of the main characters in 'Goblin Hall'. It's going to be a 32 or so page comic I think with the whole story in one issue. I think people like it when they can buy the whole story in one go better than buying the installments. Will have to wait and see...

Here's a little review of 'Gin Palace' from The Mithering Times.
