Jim Medway (Editor) - Garden Funnies 2
Jim Medway has brought out a second issue of his Garden Funnies. It's very good, and it has rounded corners! Buy it here once his shop is fixed, it seems to be broken at the moment.

Emmanuel Guibert, Didier Lefevre, Frederick Lemercier - The Photographer
This is a great book. It's a really interesting subject and is beautifully drawn by Guibert. His drawings a lot different than in 'Alan's War', it's much more tintin-esque looking (he says this himself in the book by putting the words into the mouth of Didier) but not with a clear line. It's his thick inky expressive lines. The tintin-ness is probably also from the way its coloured in flat colours instead of being black and white like 'Alan's War'. The most interesting thing about the artwork is the way the drawings really seamlessly combine with the photos of Lefevre. The book uses the contact sheets for the photographs so they are already in a sort of strip format. Many are marked with crosses by the photographer and are not quite perfect, every so often there is a big half page photo to show something important which is the photo that has come out just right. There are several whole pages of loads of little tiny photos showing all the moments in a scene.

Tom England & Christopher Bernard Leahy - Fragments
'Fragments' is a good name for this small press comic from the Mallard Small Press. It has three cartoons about people sitting by rivers and watching them, and then some written pieces. Its very poetic. The cartoons are very Porcellino-esque, nice simple drawing. It's all about rivers, some of the text pieces seem to be about the evil of rivers which is something I've not seen before. One of them is the tale of Mellweg, a short oily river beast.
Jeremy Dennis, Ellen Lindler & Mardou - Whores of Mensa 4
Whores of Mensa 4 is subtitled 'Les Dames de Paris', it's got a great cover with all the famous women of Paris on it, there's a guide on the back page so you can find out who they all are which is nice. This is a very good issue of Whores of Mensa, all about Paris obviously. It has three long stories in it and a couple of one page stories too, also an interview with Vanessa Davis. I've not read anything much by her yet, but she is on my list to get something from...
I enjoyed Jeremy Dennis' 'Les Chthulettes' about dancing Lovecraft monsters. Ellen Lindler tells the story of Lee Miller (I knew her for her photojournalism, but I didnt know much else about her before this) and Mardou tells the story of Anais Nin. Well worth buying.
